E-mail from principal

adiemtocarpe:

I haven’t talked to you about next years plan and the if/if not you plan to return???  If you are, I have a second grade spot and possibly a third grade spot and I always let staff that is already working have first choice of open placements.

I need some serious advice, y’all.

2nd/3rd grade can be so much fun!  You’ve definitely had a rough year, tho, so—make a pro/con list.  Is it the school you don’t like or the trouble with parents?  I can absolutely, without a doubt, tell you that where I’m at, teachers don’t get the fantastic support you currently have from both the administration AND your teaching peers.  That, combined with the fact that you’ve already jumped through all the firey hoops this year…at least you would start out comfortable with your coworkers.

I think that’s probably what I would do.  Figure out what it is that is making you unhappy right now.  If it’s something that would never change no matter what grade, you may want to move.  If it’s something that comes with experience and getting rid of parents who like to complain…maybe give it another go?

Common Core State Collections

teachersintiaras:

Below is a link to a website that has a list of books that correlates to each state and the common core standards. Each standard and indicator has a list of books that directly correlates to the content. This is so wonderful! SC is making the switch to Common Core Standards soon so I am definitely going to use this to assist with the shift in my curriculum.

Teachers in Tiaras: Classroom Conflict

teachersintiaras:

An addition to the early Classroom Meeting post is to include a classroom conflict chart on your desk. Throughout the week as drama and conflict occurs (as it always does), have the students write down their names and central conflict on the chart. As the teacher, you have the autonomy to decide…

We've Got A Diem to Carpe: I think this is my official breaking point.

adiemtocarpe:

This requires several stories.

January: Student S steals an iPad. The next day, I come to class and tell the students (before I know who took the iPad), “Today I had a lot of fun things planned. However, we can’t do them because I had to leave my laptop at home and since I don’t know who took…

Unfortunately, as an elementary school teacher, I cannot say this is unbelievable.  This is completely realistic, and similar situations happen on a regular basis.

Strong Feelings and Unreasonable Exclamations.: WHY IS DEBRA MESSING ALWAYS WEARING HER SUNGLASSES INSIDE?? And other SMASH questions.

taaronwilliams:

1. When is the scene where a cape-clad Ellis ties Julia to the train tracks while twiddling his moustache?

2. Do you think the reason that they can’t afford acting lessons for the boy playing Julia’s son is because they blew all that money on Debra Messing’s scarves?

3. When is Ann Harada going…

This is fantastic.

Here’s a little GEM from the new Tumblr Privacy Policy and Usage Guidelines and stuff. Because I actually read it.

cajunraised:

“You have to be at least 13 years old to use Tumblr. We’re serious: it’s a hard rule, based on U.S. federal and state legislation, even if you’re 12.9 years old. If you’re younger than 13, don’t use Tumblr. Ask your parents for an Xbox or try books.”

I love you Tumblr. So very, very much.

Wait—I read it for the first time too!  Go to the community section and scroll down to the ‘sexually explicit videos’ section.  Swear to you this is a quote:  ‘it’s fucking expensive’.  I will forever read their policy updates now!
